The NRCan Library - Ottawa (Earth Sciences) is not only Canada’s premier earth sciences library, but also the oldest scientific library in Canada, having begun in 1854 as the Geological Survey of Canada Library.

In 2004, the NRCan Library - Ottawa (Earth Sciences), formerly known as ESIC, marked its 150th anniversary, giving us the opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments, reflect on our history (brief, full, historical photographs), and participate in the creation of two innovative web sites exploring the history and archival documents of the Geological Survey of Canada (Life of a Rock Star, Written in Stone).
